Out of the Ruins (continued from yesterday)

Schloss Arkaden with original discoloured stones.
This photo left is of the old Residenzschloss, the home of the Dukes in Braunschweig.  It was mostly destroyed in the war, but many stones were numbered, stored or buried and then used in the rebuilding of the Palace in 2005. These original stones can be seen on the facade. The biggest Quadriga in Europe sits on top.  It is possible to view the city from up there, I will find my way. Wikipedia gives more information.

Inscription in the old German Gothic Script.
This is another wonderful carved wooden inscription on a house near St Aedigean, and written in old  Gothic script and I think it says:  "Friedrich Hunfborscheis House, in the ? built Anno 1536 on the command of the city authorities.  After demolition re erected  Anno 1902."  The script is difficult to read.

I visited a film theatre today to see some pre war and war time films of Braunschweig.   I'll report tomorrow.
